During the meeting of the Committee of the Jogorku Kenesh on Agricultural Policy, Water Resources, Subsoil Use, Ecology, and Environmental Protection on February 2, the deputies discussed the contribution of the Bishkek CHPP to air pollution.

The mayor of the capital, Aibek Junushaliev, in response to a question from deputy Bakyt Tentishev, noted that the CHPP is indeed a source of emissions; however, its contribution is significantly lower compared to emissions from road transport and residential areas.

According to the mayor, during the autumn and winter periods, new energy units at the CHPP were equipped with sulfur cleaning installations, which allowed for a significant reduction in emissions — now only steam comes out of the pipes. The old units continue to operate with electrofilters, which are also undergoing modernization.

In addition, Junushaliev spoke about a new approach to ash disposal at the CHPP.

“Previously, the costs for the removal and cleaning of ash fell on the budget, but now the ash is sold to investors at a price of 2900 soms per ton. Investors have installed equipment worth about 1.5 million dollars for extracting ash directly from the pipes, which also helps reduce emissions,” the mayor added.
