Deputy Umbetaly Kydyraiev emphasized that solutions for improving the ecology should be integrated into the General Plan of the capital.
According to him, factors such as wind rose, construction features, and pollution sources must be taken into account, stressing that without political will, it is impossible to solve this problem systematically.
Bishkek Mayor Aybek Junushaliev noted that the city hall monitors international air quality indices daily and analyzes their changes, while the city demonstrates improved positions in the rankings on days with strong winds.
He also cited megacities such as Beijing, Lahore, and Delhi, pointing out that even with significant investments in ecology, the problem of air pollution remains relevant. The mayor emphasized that despite doubts about the accuracy of some sensors, the authorities take the published indices into account and use them to evaluate the effectiveness of the measures taken.
Furthermore, Junushaliev reported that during the development of the General Plan for Bishkek, ecological issues, including the influence of the wind rose, were considered separately. To ensure objectivity, independent experts from abroad were involved in the work. According to him, about 89% of the proposals developed during the discussions have already been taken into account and are being implemented.
He also provided statistics on the sources of air pollution in Bishkek: approximately 47% of pollution is related to coal heating, 21% to motor vehicles (minibuses and trucks), 15% to industry, and the remaining 17% comes from other sources. The deputy emphasized the importance of actively promoting gasification as one of the key steps to reducing the level of smog in the capital.
