At the meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh Committee on Agrarian Policy and Ecology, the issue of why smog continues to persist in Bishkek was raised, despite a number of measures that have been taken.

Deputy Azizbek Tursunbaev noted that the results of the measures taken are not yet satisfactory. Although steps such as improving public transport and gasification are considered positive, the problem of smog remains relevant, indicating that the underlying causes of pollution have not been addressed.

He also questioned whether the sources of pollution have been clearly identified and why the situation has not undergone significant changes.

Minister of Natural Resources Meder Mashiev confirmed that the issue of smog is still on the agenda. However, he noted that there is a trend towards a reduction in its level, although the situation is not fully resolved.

The minister clarified that the main sources of smog are coal burning, vehicle emissions, and dust. Efforts are currently focused on these aspects by the relevant agencies.

During the discussion, the deputy touched on the topic of chaotic urban development and its negative impact on the environmental situation.

The minister agreed that past construction has disrupted the "rose of winds," which has worsened the natural ventilation processes in Bishkek. In developing a new master plan, the city authorities and government agencies are trying to take into account the mistakes made, but existing buildings continue to negatively affect the ecology.

The deputy also reminded that in the past, wind from the mountains regularly blew in Bishkek, which helped to clean the air. Today, in his opinion, new buildings block air flows, leading to the stagnation of smog over the city.

The minister added that over the past ten years, Bishkek has experienced temperature inversion, which acts as a kind of "lid," intensifying smog during the winter period.
