At a meeting of the committee of the Jogorku Kenesh, Deputy Azizbek Tursunbaev emphasized the issues of the green fund of the capital and its impact on air quality.

He reminded that Bishkek was once renowned for its greenery, where trees and the irrigation system helped reduce dust and improve climatic conditions.

In his opinion, today the number of green zones has significantly decreased, and simply planting trees without proper oversight does not solve the existing problems.

In response, Bishkek Mayor Aybek Junushaliev reported on the analysis of the ecological situation carried out as part of the development of the General Plan, which involved international organizations and independent experts. According to their assessments, the norms for greening in the city have been significantly violated.

As the mayor noted, urban planning standards require 16 square meters of greenery per person, but currently this figure in Bishkek has dropped to about 4 square meters.

He also added that by 2025, the city plans to plant more than 18,000 trees, with a focus on their survival and regular watering. By 2026, the authorities intend to increase the number of new plantings to 50,000.

Furthermore, the mayor emphasized that practices for pre-growing trees in nurseries are being implemented, irrigation systems are being restored, and ditches and channels are being cleaned. All these measures are aimed at improving air quality and reducing dust levels.
