At the meeting of the Committee of the Jogorku Kenesh on Agricultural Policy, Water Resources, Subsoil Use, Ecology, and Environmental Protection on February 2, the deputies discussed the situation with air pollution in Bishkek and measures to reduce the level of smog.

During the discussion, Deputy Bakyt Tentishev raised the question of which source of pollution in the capital is currently considered the most critical.

Bishkek Mayor Aybek Junushaliev responded that the main ecological burden comes from residential areas where coal heating is actively used. He added that the problem lies not only in the quality of coal but also in the burning of waste, including textile and household garbage.

According to the mayor, this explains the large number of protocols issued by the municipal inspection, as many violations are related to illegal waste burning in stoves.

Junushaliev emphasized that although the CHPP is a source of emissions, its contribution is significantly less than that of motor vehicles and residential areas.

In this regard, the authorities plan to actively develop gasification, as the transition to gas heating will make it impossible to burn garbage in stoves. The mayor also noted that the city is implementing alternative sources of heat, such as heat pumps and solar panels, to provide residents with options and reduce the volume of emissions into the atmosphere.
