"Although we cannot claim that the smog problem is completely resolved, positive changes are becoming noticeable every year," noted Bishkek Mayor Aibek Junushaliev following a meeting of the environmental council.

He added that many associate the improvement in air quality with warm weather; however, in other countries where temperatures are higher, pollution levels remain high. For example, Beijing is often cited as an example. In that city, on February 12, the second highest pollution level in the world was recorded, the mayor reported.

According to him, dust and landfills also affect air quality.

"The work of the municipal inspection has already yielded results: over the past year, dust levels have decreased. Cleaning the riverbeds has also contributed to the reduction of dust," Junushaliev emphasized.

He also noted that the city is taking comprehensive measures to combat smog, including the gasification of residential areas, tree planting, the construction of a waste incineration plant, and other initiatives.
