Today, the Supreme Court of Kyrgyzstan postponed the hearing in the case of Mahabat Tajibek kyzy, according to information provided by the 24.kg press service of the court.

The reason for the postponement was the significant amount of case materials that require additional time for review. The new date for the hearing is set for March 3.

Journalist Mahabat Tajibek kyzy was sentenced to six years in prison on charges of "inciting mass riots." The request to suspend the execution of the sentence was denied, despite the fact that she is the mother of a minor child.

On January 16, 2024, mass arrests occurred in the country, during which 11 people associated with the projects Temirov LIVE and "Ait, Ait dese" were detained. These journalists faced charges of "inciting mass riots" based on their professional activities.

On October 10, 2024, a court in the Lenin district of Bishkek sentenced Mahabat Tajibek kyzy to six years in prison. This sentence was upheld by the Bishkek City Court on December 18, 2024, and on February 25, 2025, the Supreme Court confirmed it.

According to the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention, it was found that Kyrgyzstan violated seven articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and six articles of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. The conclusion stated that the imprisonment of the journalist was a result of her lawful exercise of the right to freedom of expression, journalistic activity, and the fight against corruption.

After receiving the conclusion from the UN Working Group, the lawyer for Mahabat Tajibek kyzy filed a petition with the Supreme Court to reopen the case based on new circumstances. Activists called on international human rights organizations, journalists, and media representatives to attend the hearing as observers.
