The Deputy Head of the Ministry of Health responded to where the most children with Down syndrome are registered.

At a meeting of the committee on labor, health, and social issues of the Jogorku Kenesh, Deputy Nilufar Alimjanova inquired about which regions of the country have the highest number of registered cases of Down syndrome. This question was answered by Deputy Minister of Health Aibek Matkerimov, who presented data on registrations over the past three years.

According to him, in 2022, there were 135 registered cases in Kyrgyzstan, in 2023 there were also 135, and in 2024 this number increased to 161.

Here is how the statistics by region look for the specified period:

Bishkek - 152;
Osh - 29;
Batken region - 22;
Jalal-Abad region - 58;
Issyk-Kul region - 27;
Naryn region - 16;
Osh region - 63;
Talas region - 17;
Chui region - 44.

Matkerimov noted that the highest number of registered cases is observed in Bishkek, which is related to internal migration and the high population concentration in the capital.

The Deputy Minister added that there are a number of criteria, including indicators of the neuro-psychological development of children under one year old, which are recorded by family doctors during each visit to the Family Medicine Center.
