At a briefing held by Deputy Minister of Emergency Situations Azamat Mambetov, it was revealed that over the past 50 years, about 16 percent of glaciers in Kyrgyzstan have disappeared.

According to data from the World Meteorological Organization, the global temperature has increased by 1.9 degrees, which has led to accelerated glacier melting. This, in turn, has resulted in the formation of approximately 2000 high-altitude lakes, of which 600 are classified as first-category hazards.

Azamat Mambetov also noted that in 2024, the West Zyndan Lake in the Ton district of the Issyk-Kul region was destroyed. Last year, the Takyr-Tor Lake experienced two breaches, which required the evacuation of about 1000 people.
