Ishak Masaliev, former deputy of the Jogorku Kenesh, made a statement about the need to review high-profile criminal cases related to the activities of the State Committee for National Security (GKNB) in recent years. He voiced his position on social media.

Masaliev noted that the leadership of the GKNB has undergone complete changes, with several employees already facing criminal charges and being in custody.

He also mentioned that Deputy Prime Minister Edil Baisalov raised the issue of growing dissatisfaction in society and an increase in law violations in the country.

According to the former deputy, the possibility of changing the status and functions of the GKNB is being discussed, with a potential limitation of its powers to specific tasks. He believes that this could be a positive step forward.

It is worth noting that Masaliev believes the president should decide which body will take on the functions of combating corruption — whether it will be a new body or the existing prosecutor's office and police.

Additionally, he proposed conducting a re-analysis of high-profile criminal cases from the past five years. Ishak Masaliev believes that the establishment of an interagency commission led by the president will help to thoroughly investigate these materials.

“The results may be surprising, but such a step is important for both society and the president,” he added.
