In Kyrgyzstan, there is a possibility of legalizing industrial hemp cultivation, as reported by Deputy Dastan Bekeshev on his Telegram channel.

At the current session of the Jogorku Kenesh, a discussion is planned on a draft law that will allow both individuals and legal entities to engage in the cultivation of medicinal herbs, including sage and aconite, on agricultural lands.

“Given the situation, it would be reasonable to also allow industrial hemp and other types of plants, possibly under strict state control. This will provide an opportunity to develop domestic production of medical narcotic substances. This topic is indeed important, and it is no joke. Many people have a need for such medications, especially those suffering from chronic pain,” noted Bekeshev.

According to current legislation, the cultivation of medicinal plants on agricultural lands in the country is prohibited. The Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Environmental Protection states that this creates legal obstacles for the development of this sector.

The agency proposes to include in the list of medicinal plants such crops as valerian, calendula, sage, saffron, ferula, aconite, arnebia, rhodiola rosea, licorice, sea buckthorn, rosehip, barberry, thyme, chamomile, and St. John's wort.
