The main goal of this event is to support emerging filmmakers. This year, the forum will showcase 18 films, including works by authors from Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, and other countries. For many of these directors, this is their first opportunity to present their works and receive feedback from viewers.
Some of the now-famous directors also began their journey at similar festivals. Among them are Asel Juraeva, an international award winner, Ruslan Akun, the author of popular films "The Last Lesson" and "In Search of Mom," as well as Russian director Elizaveta Stishova.
The forum will last for three days and will conclude on March 7. The program includes not only film screenings but also master classes from professionals, pitching of short films, and business meetings, allowing participants to exchange experiences and establish useful contacts for future projects.
The main events of the "Umut" forum take place at the Ch. Aitmatov Cinema House and include competitive and non-competitive screenings, as well as discussions and meetings with the filmmakers. Umut Industry, held at the "Oloolo-Erkindik" coworking space, offers educational and professional activities such as lectures, presentations, and pitch sessions. The aim of all events is to support the creativity of youth and develop professional connections in the region's film industry.
This year's forum slogan is "With Love from Paris." It is dedicated to the work of Dogdurbek Kydyraliev, People's Artist of Kyrgyzstan, and Seyit Bokonbaev, a veteran of Kyrgyz cinema, film critic, and educator. A creative meeting with Seyit Janayevich Bokonbaev is scheduled for March 6.
