The number of domestic violence cases in Kyrgyzstan has increased by 24%

In 2025, Kyrgyzstan faced a noticeable increase in the number of court cases related to domestic violence. Deputy Chairperson of the Supreme Court Nurgul Bakirova announced this data at the 70th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women in New York.

According to judicial statistics, 1,196 cases were reviewed this year, which is 24% higher than the figures for 2024.

Bakirova noted that this not only highlights the existing seriousness of the problem but also indicates an increase in the detection of offenses and growing public trust in the judicial system.

She also added that several legislative initiatives aimed at promoting gender equality and combating domestic violence have been implemented in the country, including the laws "On Protection and Defense Against Domestic Violence" and "On State Guarantees of Equal Rights and Equal Opportunities for Men and Women."

The forum, where these issues are being discussed, gathers representatives from 107 countries and will last until March 19.
