How Nowruz Was Celebrated in Tyup

Celebration of Nowruz in Tyup: Traditions and Community Events<{short}>Turmush — This year, Nowruz was celebrated in the Tyup district of the Issyk-Kul region. 

Local residents celebrated this important holiday in the district center, organizing national games, sports competitions, and an agricultural products fair.

The ceremonial opening took place with the participation of the head of the Tyup Ayil Okmotu, U. Bozgunov, who, after his address, received congratulations from deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh and leaders of local institutions.

Cultural workers prepared a theatrical performance dedicated to the spring awakening of nature and the equinox. Women in traditional white elecheks conducted the alastoo ritual, symbolizing purification and a new beginning. Following this, competitions for the best yurt decoration and an exhibition of national dishes were held, organized with cash prizes from the Tyup Ayil Okmotu.

Additionally, as part of the celebration, a crafts exhibition was held, along with a small concert program.

Specially for the holiday, sümölök was prepared in nine different variations, on the surface of which one could see the image of deer antlers.

“Last year, the sümölök featured the outlines of Mount Karkara, and this year — the head and antlers of a deer. There are many representatives of the Buguu clan in our district, and the deer symbol embodies kindness and courage,” noted journalist Muratbek Jumakadyrov.

Before distributing the sümölök — a national dish, sprouted barley was packaged in 150 boxes, and kuurma tea was prepared, which was offered to residents with good wishes.

Based on the results of the competition for the best yurt decoration, prizes were awarded by the head of the Tyup Ayil Okmotu: 10,000 soms for first place, 8,000 for second, and third and fourth places received 3,000 and 2,000 soms, respectively.
