The Lenin District Court in Bishkek has decided to change the measure of restraint for Mahabat Tajibek kyzy, resulting in her release from custody.

According to participants in the court proceedings, the court granted the defense's request to soften the measure of restraint, but rejected other aspects, including the demands to terminate the criminal case.

It is worth noting that earlier, Mahabat's lawyers sought a complete cessation of the criminal prosecution and the immediate release of their client.

According to a previous court decision, on October 10, 2024, Tajibek was sentenced to six years in prison. This sentence was upheld by the Bishkek City Court and then by the Supreme Court in February 2025.

After that, the defense filed a petition for a review of the case based on newly discovered circumstances, which led to the Supreme Court's decision to reconsider the case in the district court.

International human rights organizations and media representatives have also called for a review of the sentence handed down to the journalist.

Mahabat Tajibek kyzy is a journalist and the head of the Temirov LIVE project, as well as the wife of the well-known investigative journalist Bolot Temirov. Together, they conducted anti-corruption investigations that sparked widespread public resonance. It should be noted that Bolot Temirov himself was expelled from Kyrgyzstan and stripped of his citizenship.
