Lawyer Akynbek Nogaev reported that the next hearing in the case of journalist Mahabat Tajibek kyzy is scheduled for April 7.

Today, the court decided to release the journalist under a travel restriction. Despite this leniency, the defense remained dissatisfied with the ruling on other aspects of the case.

“We disagree with the court's refusal to terminate the case. The court did not support our request for a complete closure of the proceedings,” emphasized the lawyer.

Regarding the next steps for the defense, he noted that no new motions to terminate the case will be submitted at the hearing on April 7, and the process will move on to the substantive examination of the case.

Recall that on October 10, 2024, the Lenin District Court issued a verdict according to which the journalist was sentenced to six years in prison. This verdict was later upheld by the Bishkek City Court, and in February 2025, the Supreme Court also confirmed it.

After that, the defense filed a motion for a review of the case based on newly discovered circumstances. As a result, the Supreme Court of the Kyrgyz Republic sent the case back for reconsideration in the district court.

Previously, various international human rights organizations and representatives of the media community called for a review of the verdict against Mahabat Tajibek kyzy.

Mahabat Tajibek kyzy is a journalist and the head of the Temirov LIVE project, as well as the wife of the renowned investigative journalist Bolot Temirov. They have worked together on anti-corruption investigations that have generated significant public resonance. It is worth noting that Bolot Temirov was previously expelled from Kyrgyzstan and stripped of his citizenship.
