The international human rights organization Civil Rights Defenders has approved the decision to place Mahabat Tajibek kyzy, the head of a media project, under house arrest.

According to the organization, this step will allow her to return to her family and minor son after more than two years of detention.

However, representatives of Civil Rights Defenders emphasized that they continue to insist on the complete dismissal of the criminal case against her. They reiterated that since the arrest of Tajibek kyzy and her colleagues, they have been urging the Kyrgyz authorities to drop all unfounded charges, which, in the opinion of human rights defenders, were brought in response to her legitimate journalistic activities.

The organization's statement notes: "Mahabat Tajibek kyzy must be fully acquitted and rehabilitated."

Nevertheless, Judge Temirbek Mamatov, who reviewed the case after the Supreme Court's decision, refused to dismiss the case and acquit the journalist. Tajibek kyzy is also subject to a travel ban, and the case is awaiting re-examination.

Mahabat Tajibek kyzy, who led anti-corruption investigations in the Temirov Live and "Ait ait dese" projects, was arrested in January 2024 along with other current and former staff members of the editorial office. In October 2024, she was sentenced to six years in prison for inciting mass unrest.

According to Civil Rights Defenders, the other defendants in this case have already been released, either on probation, granted clemency, or acquitted.
