In Karakol, located in the Issyk-Kul region, a unique wooden building has been preserved, constructed after the devastating earthquake that occurred in 1887. Since 1991, this building has served as the second building of the children's art school. Interestingly, in 1881, Karakol consisted of only six blocks built from clay and brick. After the earthquake, which destroyed many adobe houses, local residents began to erect wooden structures, distinguished by their beauty and variety of patterns. The original owner of the music school remains unknown, but it is certain that the building was constructed after the disaster.

Tatyana Kuznetsova, who worked at the music school for over half a century, shared that this building was previously used as a private house, then became a children's library, and later was transformed into a narcological hospital.
The city of Przhevalsk, like Karakol, is characterized by numerous wooden structures. This decision was made as a result of the destruction caused by the earthquake of 1887, which led to damage to traditional adobe buildings.

The earthquake that occurred on June 9, 1887, in Verny (now Almaty) is known as the "Verny Earthquake." It claimed the lives of 332 people and severely damaged the city. The tragedy occurred early in the morning when most residents were still in deep sleep.
According to State Councillor V.K. Igumnov, the church, prison, and county administration were affected in the Issyk-Kul district. In Pishpek, all the dachas were destroyed except for two, three bridges were damaged, and communication with other regions was interrupted. The riverbeds changed, and many buildings, such as the church and school in Preobrazhenskoe, were severely affected.
Igumnov's report from July 10, 1889, demonstrates the scale of the destruction. He noted that there were relatively few damages in the Naryn Valley. However, in the mountains, where Kyrgyz shepherds roamed, there were significant losses among people and livestock.
Thus, on July 31, 1889, Igumnov submitted a report on the consequences of the earthquake. In it, he mentioned three strong tremors that frightened livestock and caused landslides of earth and stones in the mountains.
Despite the possibility of escape, some residents stayed behind to help their loved ones. For example, in the village of Uytal, an 80-year-old man died while trying to save his sleeping wife, although she survived.
