Researchers from the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna claim that this is the first known case of a cow using tools. The results of the study were published in the international scientific journal Current Biology.

Scientists note that Veronika's ability to use a stick is a significant achievement, as such skills have previously only been observed in chimpanzees. In 70 conducted experiments, the cow successfully completed tasks, including using a long-handled brush to scratch her back.
“We have no reason to believe that cows are stupid animals. We are not claiming that Veronika is the Einstein among cows. However, unlike most of her peers, she is not intended for meat or milk production, but is a beloved pet. She has had many opportunities for learning and interaction, and she has lived a long life,” shared study co-author Alice Auer-Sperg.
