During the interview, Mayor Aibek Junushaliev spoke about the decision to build underground crossings on Chingiz Aitmatov Avenue, instead of the originally planned overpasses.

According to the mayor, it was initially planned to construct three overpasses; however, public criticism influenced the reconsideration of this decision. Additionally, the overpasses did not align with the "Clean Sky" concept.

He noted that this concept involves the removal of hanging wires and other structures to preserve the panoramic view of the mountains. On Aitmatov Avenue, there is a beautiful view of the mountains, and the installation of overpasses could spoil this picture. Numerous critical remarks on this matter also contributed to the change of plans.

The mayor also acknowledged that constructing underground crossings is a complex task. Since the collapse of the Soviet Union, such facilities have not been built in Bishkek, and there has been a lack of necessary specialists and experience. As an experiment, one crossing was built, after which work began on the construction of the others.

As is known, after the reconstruction of Chingiz Aitmatov Avenue, all pedestrian crossings disappeared. Earlier, there were reports about plans to build an overpass. Work indeed began, but it later became clear that the site allocated for the bridge had been dismantled. The Bishkek city hall and the presidential administration did not comment on this situation, referring to each other. It was later revealed that underground crossings would be constructed.
