"We are forced to do this, regardless of opinions"
The Mayor of Bishkek, Aibek Junushaliev, announced a possible increase in public transport fares.
He noted that this decision is necessary to raise the salaries of bus drivers and maintain the technical condition of public transport.
According to the mayor, "whether we like it or not, we have to go for it. The idea of increasing fares has been proposed for a long time, and I insisted on revising this issue. We need to change the fares in such a way that city residents start using cashless payments. This will improve compliance with traffic rules, drivers will not be distracted, and passengers will become more disciplined. Thus, many problems will be solved, and the budget will become more transparent," he added.
