The government plans to lower the groundwater level to organize new residential areas
Funding for the concreting of a specific part of the Big Chui Canal (BChK) will be provided by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). This was reported by the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry.
Deputy Minister Bakyt Torobaev noted that the total estimated cost of this project is 37 million euros.
Currently, negotiations are underway between the government and the EBRD, and a corresponding agreement is being prepared.
According to the Ministry of Water Resources and Agriculture, losses of irrigation water in the BChK system reach 50-55%. Concreting the riverbed will significantly reduce these losses, prevent water from filtering into the soil and underground layers, ensuring a reliable water supply to agricultural lands.
In addition, the concreting of the BChK will create conditions for the construction of new settlements near existing ones, the official added.
