Starting February 1, mandatory licensing for taxis will come into effect, as reminded by Deputy Dastan Bekeshev.

According to him, the new requirements could leave many drivers without jobs, which will lead to a reduction in the number of taxis on the streets of the city.

Bekeshev stated: "Due to the fact that not everyone will be able to fulfill orders, the cost of rides may increase to 700-800 soms, instead of the usual 200-300, as demand will rise while supply will be extremely limited."

The deputy also expressed concern that this could cause dissatisfaction among workers in the taxi industry.

"Some of them have loans. Migrants who returned from Moscow, Russia, and other countries and started working in taxis are likely to be very unhappy, as this is their only opportunity to earn," he added.

To date, about 7,000 people have received licenses, while at least 70,000 work in the taxi sector. Bekeshev believes that the government should extend the deadlines for obtaining a license, as many drivers have not managed to complete the process.
