At a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh, the Speaker of Parliament Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu reported a sharp increase in public dissatisfaction due to rising service prices, especially in areas such as cafes, restaurants, taxis, and household services. He noted that people are actively complaining about the price hikes and associate them with the actions of the Cabinet of Ministers.
The Speaker added that after the cancellation of service charges in restaurants, owners simply included these 10-15% in the price of dishes.
“There is nothing complicated here — they just raised the prices of dishes. As a result, the business remained the same, while ordinary citizens did not gain any benefit,” Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu noted.
He emphasized that such measures should only be taken after thorough analysis, not in haste, as this harms the population. According to him, currently, service prices in Kyrgyzstan in some cases even exceed the levels of major world cities, which causes serious dissatisfaction.
In light of the above, the Speaker announced that in February, the Cabinet of Ministers will be invited to the Jogorku Kenesh to explain the reasons for the price increases and the quality of services.
It is worth reminding that the bill to abolish service charges in cafes and restaurants was previously initiated by the deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh.
