At a recent meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh, deputy Dastan Bekeshev proposed an initiative to accelerate the production process of clothing made from technical cannabis.

He noted that cannabis can be applied in various industries, including the textile industry.

“Currently, sewing enterprises are forced to import fabrics from abroad, although they could use domestic material. The Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources should intensify its work in this direction,” Bekeshev emphasized.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture Zhanibek Kerimaliev added that implementing industrial use of cannabis will require changes to legislation.

“We have not yet reached this stage, but I agree that it has great potential. If the Academy of Sciences provides the appropriate conclusion, research can begin. I support the idea that uniforms and underwear for the military can be produced from cannabis, as the material turns out to be lightweight and breathable,” he noted.
