At a meeting of the committee on agrarian policy, water resources, subsoil use, ecology, and environmental protection of the Jogorku Kenesh, Mahabat Mavlyanova proposed a solution to the smog problem, which is relevant for Kyrgyzstan. In her opinion, it is necessary to build modern smokeless thermal power plants (TPPs).

The deputy noted that the installation of smokeless stoves does not solve the problem at the national level and emphasized the importance of a comprehensive approach to this issue. "It is essential to construct TPPs with high-quality filters to minimize air pollution from coal combustion. To attract investors, favorable conditions must be created for them, such as providing land plots for construction free of charge," she added.

Mavlyanova also pointed out that Kyrgyzstan extracts a significant amount of coal annually. "From this volume, part is exported, so it is necessary to formulate a sound policy in the field of solid fuel extraction to leave resources for future generations," said the deputy.

According to the meeting, about 4 million tons of coal are extracted in the country each year, of which 2.5 million tons are used for domestic needs, while the remaining part is exported.
