During the session of the Jogorku Kenesh on March 11, deputy Erlan Kokulov expressed the need to elevate the status of parliamentarians, addressing President Sadyr Japarov. He noted that deputies face significant difficulties in collaborating with representatives of the executive branch.
Kokulov pointed out that it has become extremely difficult to get a meeting with ministers.
“We come not with personal issues, but with problems concerning the people. However, ministers do not wish to meet with us. Sometimes even the guard at the entrance makes us wait,” he complained.
In response, the president criticized the elected officials themselves, stating that their status primarily depends on their own actions.
“You are lowering your own status and humiliating yourselves by raising insignificant issues. How can the people respect you after that? Deputies should be dealing with important state matters!” the head of state emphasized.
Nevertheless, Sadyr Japarov instructed cabinet members to meet with deputies out of turn if they come with work-related issues. However, he added: “If deputies come for personal matters, you can send them away.”
