In the Batken region, a court sentenced a man who had been evading alimony payments since 2017. He received a two-year prison sentence, according to information provided by the Judicial Enforcement Service of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Kyrgyz Republic.

According to the data provided by the Service, in July 2017, the Batken District Court ordered him to pay one-fourth of his income for the maintenance of his child until the child reaches the age of 18. Despite multiple notifications from the judicial enforcement officers, the man continued to ignore the court's decision.

As of September 1, 2025, the alimony debt amounted to over 501,000 soms.

Initially, in October 2025, the court imposed two years of probation supervision on the man. However, the victim party appealed this decision.

As a result of the appeal review, the Batken Regional Court revoked the previous decision on February 2 and sentenced the debtor to two years of imprisonment with immediate detention in the courtroom.

Representatives of the Judicial Enforcement Service emphasized that evading alimony payments entails criminal liability.

According to information from the Judicial Department of the KR, there are approximately 60,000 registered alimony cases in Kyrgyzstan, but only about 2 percent of divorced parents regularly fulfill their payment obligations.
