Human rights activist Rita Karasartova announced her intention to file a lawsuit in the Administrative Court of Bishkek against the leadership of the State Penitentiary Service (GPS) and the pre-trial detention center (SIZO-1).

On her social media page, she emphasized that according to the law, individuals held in pre-trial detention centers have the right to one 15-minute phone call with relatives once a week. However, she stated that this right is not upheld in practice.

The press service of the GPS, in response to Karasartova's statements, denied her accusations. The agency noted that upon entering the SIZO, each accused person is informed of their rights, obligations, and daily routine, which is also documented with a signature.

Additionally, the press service added that information about the rights and obligations of the accused is posted on informational boards inside the cells where they are held.

The GPS emphasized that their work is carried out in accordance with current legislation, and they are prepared to defend their position in court.
