On Thursday, a tragedy occurred at Praia do Chifre beach, located in the city of Olinda in northeastern Brazil: a 13-year-old boy became a victim of a shark, as reported by Kazinform, citing information from Xinhua.
According to the medical services of Pernambuco state, the boy was in the water with friends, ignoring warning signs about frequent shark attacks in the area. Eyewitnesses claim that the shark attacked him from behind and inflicted serious injuries. The child was urgently taken to a hospital in Olinda, but he died from blood loss.
According to the State Committee for Monitoring Shark Incidents, there have been 82 attacks in Pernambuco since 1992, of which 27 were fatal.
Regional authorities remind that warning signs prohibiting swimming due to the high likelihood of shark encounters have been installed on the beaches of Recife and Olinda. These places are particularly attractive to tourists during the carnival season.
