The US debt to the UN is nearly four billion dollars

The United Nations (UN) has appealed to the US authorities for information on when and what part of its debt, which amounts to nearly $4 billion, the Trump administration intends to pay off. This was reported by Kazinform, citing NBC News.

Last week, UN Secretary-General António Guterres issued a warning about a potential financial collapse of the organization if its financial rules are not revised or if all 193 member states do not fulfill their contribution obligations.

According to data, the US debt for the regular operational budget of the UN is $2.19 billion, including $767 million that is due to be paid this year. The United States also owes $1.8 billion under a separate budget intended for UN peacekeeping operations, and this amount continues to grow.

US representatives at the UN confirmed that the Trump administration plans to pay off a significant portion of this debt in the coming weeks, although the exact amount has not yet been determined.

Guterres also noted in his recent letter to UN member states that by July of this year, the funds for the regular operational budget may run out, which would seriously impact the functioning of the organization.
