The first test flight of a hypersonic missile took place on February 3 at the Andøya test site in Norway, as reported by Euronews. The prototype, developed by Hypersonica, demonstrated stable system performance during ascent and descent through the atmosphere.

Hypersonica, founded in 2023, is a joint project of British and German specialists. The company's founders, Philipp Kert and Mark Evenc, called the successful test a significant step towards creating "a sovereign hypersonic capability for Europe." According to them, the missile could be ready for serial production by 2029.

The data collected during the flight will be used for further work on high-speed strike systems and analysis of potential adversary strategies. The company's plans include a series of tests, including hypersonic flights and the execution of complex maneuvers.

Hypersonica noted that their project aligns with NATO goals and the British program for the development of hypersonic technologies by 2030, as well as allowing for cost reductions compared to traditional approaches.

Given Europe's growing dependence on American weapons, countries in the region are ramping up investments in their own defense projects. According to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), from 2020 to 2024, arms imports from the U.S. to Europe, including Ukraine, increased more than threefold compared to the previous five years.
