In 2025, Mongolia exported over 85,000 tons of meat and meat products

The Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry of Mongolia has announced that in 2025, the country exported 85,400 tons of meat and meat products, generating revenue of $343.9 million.

According to the ministry's information, the main export destinations were China, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam.

The Mongolian authorities are striving to diversify the economy, which still heavily depends on the extractive sector, and to increase the volumes of meat and meat product exports to international markets.

By December 2025, around 67 meat processing enterprises in Mongolia received special licenses for export.

According to the National Statistical Office, by the end of 2025, Mongolia had 58.1 million head of livestock.

Currently, the country is home to about 30 million sheep — a number that exceeds that of New Zealand. However, until recently, Mongolia exported only a small fraction of its total meat production. In the future, the country hopes to increase exports to meet the growing demand for halal lamb, especially from Iran, which is facing a shortage of local production.
