Scientists report the absence of sunspots for the first time in several years

Currently, the Sun appears as a perfect disk, lacking any features, as reported by experts. The last time such a situation was observed was on December 11, 2021. According to researchers, the absence of sunspots is a characteristic sign of periods of low solar activity, known as solar minimum.

Additionally, the solar activity index has reached zero for the first time since 2024, which also piques the interest of astronomers.

Sunspots, as scientists explain, are an important element of the star's surface and arise from a high concentration of magnetic fields. Dark areas form where magnetic flows reach their peak. Since solar flares are generated by magnetic fields, the number and size of sunspots are directly related to the level of solar activity.
