On February 28, a series of explosions occurred in Dubai and other locations in the Persian Gulf, as reported by the international agency Reuters and local state media.
Essence of the events
In response to recent joint attacks by the USA and Israel, Iran launched missiles targeting several countries in the region, including the UAE.
The air defense systems deployed in the UAE managed to intercept some of the attacking missiles; however, debris fell on the city, causing loud explosions.
A fire broke out in the "Palm Jumeirah" area as a result of the explosion, and at least four people were injured, according to AFP.
The UAE Ministry of Defense confirmed that the air defense systems successfully repelled part of the missile attacks.
State media also reported on the first casualties, including civilians injured by debris in the capital, Abu Dhabi.
Although UAE authorities did not announce a large-scale evacuation, part of the airspace was temporarily closed.
Local residents and tourists in Dubai heard explosions and observed air defense activities; however, in some areas, the situation remained calm despite isolated loud sounds, as reported by witnesses and media.
Explosions were also heard in Dubai Marina, but there were no reports of significant destruction.
The escalation of the situation is linked to the intensification of the conflict that began after military operations by the USA and Israel against Iran, which prompted retaliatory actions by Iran in the form of attacks on US military facilities and terrorist acts in the region.
