Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that no direct agreements had been reached with Russia regarding an energy truce. These words were voiced in an interview published by "Strana.ua".
He specified that the team of American leader Donald Trump acted as a mediator.
“If Russia does not strike our energy system, we will also refrain from attacks on their facilities. I am confident that this is the response that the American mediators expected from us. We always support reasonable initiatives from the U.S. and are ready for real steps,” Zelensky noted.
Earlier, Donald Trump also mentioned that Russia had suspended its strikes on Ukraine after his appeal to President Vladimir Putin.
However, according to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, on the night of January 30, Russian troops launched 111 drones and one Iskander-M ballistic missile at Ukrainian territory.
According to Ukrainian military reports, a missile hit and 25 attacking UAVs were recorded at 15 different locations, as well as debris from downed drones falling in two places. They managed to intercept 80 Russian drones. Strikes using drones and aerial bombs continued on Friday, according to information from the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Meanwhile, Moscow has not confirmed the existence of an "energy truce." The press secretary of the President of Russia, Dmitry Peskov, noted that the Kremlin would not comment on rumors of possible negotiations with Kyiv on this issue.
According to the Financial Times, the issue of the "energy truce" may have been discussed at closed trilateral meetings between Russia, Ukraine, and the U.S. that took place in Abu Dhabi last week. Zelensky confirmed this, characterizing the proposed measures as "steps towards de-escalation."
In January, the Russian armed forces attacked Ukraine's energy infrastructure, leading to power and heating outages in several cities, including Kyiv.
