The conversation between the two leaders, according to Ushakov, was constructive and candid, which is characteristic of their communication. The discussion lasted about 60 minutes. The previous contact took place in December 2025. The main topics of discussion concerned the conflict with Iran and the trilateral negotiations between Russia, the USA, and Ukraine.
Ushakov noted that Trump expressed interest in an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine and achieving peace. Putin supported the US efforts as a mediator and their negotiating team.
At a press conference in Florida, Trump commented on his conversation with Putin, stating that the Russian president "wanted to help" in resolving the Iranian conflict, but the main focus was on the situation in Ukraine. "We discussed Ukraine, and it seems to be an endless struggle. There is a huge hatred between Putin and Zelensky; they seem unable to find common ground. Nevertheless, I believe our conversation was positive," Trump added. He also noted that he suggested to Putin to focus on ending the war in Ukraine, which he believed would be more beneficial. "The conversation was good," Trump concluded.
