In Kyrgyzstan, a rise in maternal mortality cases was recorded in 2025. Health Minister Kanybek Dosmambetov instructed the development of a comprehensive set of measures in response to these alarming indicators, as reported by the Ministry of Health.

In the current year, 48 cases of maternal mortality were registered, corresponding to a rate of 34.8 per 100,000 live births. This is 35.4% higher than the level recorded last year, when 36 cases were noted (i.e., 25.7 per 100,000).

At a board meeting summarizing the results of 2025, the minister characterized the increase in maternal mortality as a "serious signal" for making management decisions. He instructed that the necessary measures be developed as soon as possible, within a week.

Dosmambetov also noted that it is necessary to revise the standards for antenatal care with an emphasis on improving quality, as well as to enhance the connection between primary healthcare and hospitals. An important aspect is the creation of a strict routing system for pregnant women, especially those who belong to high-risk groups. Additionally, it is essential to strengthen telemedicine consultations and implement prenatal screening, as stated in the report.
