On February 24, Deputy Nurjamal Torobekova, representing District No. 8, proposed the introduction of mandatory medical examinations for couples planning to register their marriage.

At a meeting of the Committee on Labor, Health, Women's Affairs, and Social Issues, she noted that in Uzbekistan, future spouses are required to undergo testing for HIV and hepatitis before getting married.

This approach can help avoid situations where one partner conceals the presence of infections. “Currently, we observe that some men return from Moscow with infections, and even their parents do not inform future brides about this. As a result, after the wedding, both the wife and the child end up getting sick,” she explained.

Additionally, the deputy suggested enhancing public awareness, taking into account migration flows, as well as increasing sanitary control. An important step will also be the systematic inspection of both private and public medical institutions, including dental clinics, beauty salons, and gynecological offices. It is equally important to expand the vaccination program against hepatitis B, including for tourists arriving in the country.
