In Kyrgyzstan, work is beginning on a radical revision of the approach to water resource management. Abdibai Zhailoobaev, Deputy Head of the Water Resources Service, announced the launch of a project during a meeting in the Jogorku Kenesh, within the framework of which the Institute of Water Problems and Hydropower of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic will create a comprehensive forecast of the state of water resources for the next 50 years.
As part of this project, scientists will conduct a thorough analysis of all water basins in the country. Based on the data obtained, a scientifically grounded scenario will be developed that takes into account the impact of global climate changes, which will allow for more effective planning of water resource distribution over the long term. In addition, the agency is carrying out a complete inventory of water sources, including all wells and underground horizons, with the aim of forming a unified digital database for strict control and accounting.
Zhailoobaev discussed the details of these plans with the Deputy Speaker of Parliament Chyngyz Azhibaev. During the conversation, the parliamentarian raised important issues related to irrigation that require urgent solutions, especially in border areas.
In particular, Azhibaev emphasized the situation in the Batken region, where farmers in the Leilek district are facing serious problems with a lack of irrigation water. The deputy called for the urgent restoration of water supply systems in the settlements of Baul and Kok-Tash, stressing that the condition of irrigation networks is directly related to food security and the standard of living of the local population.
