Recordings of the incident have gone viral on social media.
It is reported that the incident occurred in the evening of January 26 in Utrecht.
The official statement emphasizes that the video recordings may provoke strong emotions and questions, and that these signals are taken very seriously.
It is also reported that all available video recordings of the incident will be reviewed, and a full investigation will be initiated. At the same time, it became known that one of the women was detained for insulting the police officer.
A police representative, as reported by the public broadcaster NOS, noted that the posted video recordings have caused "a wave of emotions and questions regarding racism."
