At an expanded government meeting, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev stated that the draft of the new Constitution includes important provisions that ensure the logical and consistent development of Kazakhstan's political system.
In this context, we are talking about creating a new system for governing the country. The planned changes will allow for the redistribution of powers, strengthen the system of checks and balances, and increase the efficiency of all political institutions. In the draft of the new Constitution, the principle of "the state for the person" becomes more explicit. This is what we have been striving for since 2019, — added Tokayev.
The discussion of the draft of the new Constitution has been brought to public attention, and despite the unexpectedness, heated debates have erupted in Kazakhstan around this topic. Social media is discussing "painful issues": language, freedom of speech, presidential powers, and the position of vice president, which quickly overshadowed topics like taxes and inflation. Some criticize the "ambiguities" and direct their proposals to the Constitutional Court, while others believe that the new document will respond to the challenges of the geopolitical situation and will contribute to the country's security.
