- The EEC Council has initiated the process of signing the Agreement on Combating Illegal Content on the Internet, as announced on February 24 by representatives of the Commission.

The draft of this Agreement, concerning coordinated measures against violations of intellectual property rights online, has been sent to the EAEU countries for the necessary internal procedures prior to signing.

This document outlines measures aimed at protecting intellectual property rights in the online space, which each country establishes in accordance with its own legislation.

The draft Agreement suggests that countries apply judicial measures to restrict access to illegal content and also imposes an obligation on website owners to limit access to such content based on a court decision. Additionally, the creation of an electronic registry to account for resources that have restricted access is planned.

It is important to note that the Agreement does not prevent member states from adopting additional measures that are not provided for in the document itself.

According to Bakyt Sultanov, Minister of Economy and Financial Policy of the EEC, all EAEU states have completed the internal coordination of the draft, indicating that the document is ready for signing.

“This Agreement is an important step for the entire media and creative community. We are establishing clear and transparent rules within the Union, which will allow us to effectively protect the interests of rights holders,” emphasized Bakyt Sultanov.
