‘We don’t want to end up in a James Cameron movie — in ‘Terminator’.’ Elon Musk urged caution with artificial intelligence

Elon Musk expressed the opinion that companies working on artificial intelligence projects should exercise caution to avoid scenarios similar to those depicted in ‘Terminator’.

At the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, where Elon Musk spoke alongside Larry Fink, head of BlackRock, he predicted that by 2026, artificial intelligence could surpass human intelligence, and within five years, AI would become smarter than all of humanity.

“I can’t predict what will happen in a decade, but at the current pace of technological development, I believe that by the end of this year we will see AI that is smarter than any human, and certainly next year,” Musk noted. “Most likely, by 2030 or 2031, which is in five years, AI intelligence will exceed the collective intelligence of all people.”

Musk also stated that the implementation of artificial intelligence and robotics will lead to unprecedented economic activation and discussed the timeline for the market release of Tesla Optimus humanoid robots.

“If everything goes according to plan, we hope to start sales by the end of next year,” he said.

According to the billionaire, “We will create such a number of robots and AI that they will be able to fully meet the needs of people. I anticipate that there will be more robots than people.”

He added that robots will significantly change society and ease human labor, noting that a time will come when machines will produce other machines.

“Everyone on Earth” will want a robot to take care of children or elderly parents,” he continued. “Who wouldn’t want a safe robot to look after children or pets?”

Musk emphasized that the main goal of Tesla, SpaceX, xAI, and Starlink is to “ensure a bright future for civilization.”

He also outlined the timeline when, in his opinion, people will be able to travel to Mars, noting that it could take another 10 years.

“If civilization continues to develop, people will be able to reach Mars within 5-10 years,” he said. Last May, he planned to send the first crewed spacecraft in 2027-2028.

Musk clarified that it is much more important not just to land on Mars, but to create a fully self-sustaining settlement there: “It is actually important to build a self-sustaining civilization on Mars, which will take another 20-30 years.”

I believe that the future will be amazing, and we are in for many wonderful events. Starship is the first rocket capable of achieving this, and as soon as it is ready for flight to Mars, the future of our civilization will be secured.
