At a meeting of the parliamentary groups "Eldik" and "Ala-Too," Deputy Prime Minister Edil Baisalov shared alarming data on poverty in Kyrgyzstan.

According to Baisalov, "urban poverty" is becoming a new reality. It affects access to housing, medical services, and education. Families struggling in rural areas are forced to move to cities in search of a better life, but they encounter the same problems. "Children suffer the most from this situation. This is a phenomenon we have been observing for the past five years, and it raises serious concerns. Currently, the poverty level in cities is significantly higher than in rural areas," he noted.

The official also emphasized that the government is actively working on improving the social assistance system, especially for children.

He added that while the state will not be able to immediately start providing benefits to all children, regardless of their families' income, steps will be taken in the coming months to improve the situation with payments.

Previously, deputies proposed a draft law aimed at expanding social support. As part of this project, parliamentarians initiated payments to all families with children up to 12 years old, as well as up to 16 years old for needy families.
