A pioneering clinical trial has begun in Australia aimed at using personalized mRNA vaccines for the treatment of brain tumors in children and adolescents, according to media sources.

The initiative, named PaedNEO-VAX, is intended for patients with the most complex forms of diseases, such as medulloblastoma, ependymoma, and high-grade gliomas, which do not respond to traditional treatments or have recurrences.

This project is supported by the Australian government, which has allocated a grant of $2.578 million for it. The treatment method is based on the principles of precision medicine. It all starts with whole-genome sequencing of each patient's tumor, which allows for the identification of its unique genetic markers. Based on this data, a personalized set of targets is created for the development of the mRNA vaccine.

Clinical trials are planned to be launched in the coming months at eight children's medical facilities located in five states of Australia.
