Members of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan are considering a draft law that proposes introducing liability for insults on the internet and social media. According to the document, such actions will be subject to fines of up to 5 million sums or arrest for up to 10 days.

“To combat ignorance, it is not enough to simply educate — it is also necessary to impose fines,” stated Deputy Alisher Kadirov.

In particular, the draft law introduces administrative liability for the use of obscene language, offensive and indecent expressions, as well as other actions that violate public order and the peace of citizens online. The deputies believe that this measure is important for maintaining public order and tranquility.

“The increase in cases of using foul language, offensive and intrusive behavior on social media has been the basis for this draft law. These actions are a clear violation of public morality and contribute to the spread of immorality, as well as an increase in disrespect and aggressive attitudes, especially among young people,” added Deputy Khushvaqt Khaitov.
