The mayor of Bishkek noted that some burials are illegal and there is no alternative route.
Recently, the mayor of Bishkek, Aibek Junushaliev, held a meeting with representatives of the local population of MTU "Novopavlovka" to discuss the planned road that will pass through the cemetery.
The discussion concerned the extension of Profsoyuznaya Street.
There are 1,364 graves located in the cemetery area. When residents learned that the new route would go through this site, they appealed to the authorities to reconsider the project, as not all families would be able to relocate their deceased before construction begins.
In response, Aibek Junushaliev stated that from 2021 to 2024, dozens of people were illegally buried in this cemetery, including those whose graves will be in the path of the future road.
He also expressed concern about compliance with sanitary norms during burials and noted that the municipality has already consulted with the bishop and the mufti regarding the relocations, as the project requires the clearance of this area.
The project also includes the demolition of four residential houses, for which compensation is provided to the owners.
"There is no alternative to this site," the mayor emphasized.
