Employees of the Republican Center for Health Promotion have once again drawn attention to the threat posed by passive smoking.

Smoking may be considered a personal choice; however, once those around begin to inhale tobacco smoke, it creates serious health risks for them.

Experts report that even an eight-hour stay of a non-smoker in a smoke-filled room is equivalent to smoking five cigarettes.

Tobacco smoke has an irritating effect on mucous membranes and negatively impacts the respiratory organs, increasing the likelihood of developing diseases such as lung cancer.

The most vulnerable to passive smoking are children, pregnant women, and the elderly. They face an increased risk of colds, bronchitis, pneumonia, asthma, infectious diseases, as well as more serious ailments such as leukemia, lymphoma, and brain tumors.

It should be noted that according to the legislation of Kyrgyzstan, smoking is prohibited in enclosed spaces and public places.
