At the age of 95, actor Robert Duvall, who won an Oscar and became famous for his roles in iconic films such as 'The Godfather' and 'Apocalypse Now', has passed away.

According to BBC, the actor died at his home in Virginia on Sunday. This was reported by his wife, Luciana.

Duvall received an Oscar in 1984 for his outstanding performance as a country musician in the film 'Tender Mercies'.

Additionally, he was nominated for this award six times for supporting roles, including his outstanding work in 'Apocalypse Now' and 'The Godfather'. His last nomination was in 2014, when he was 83 years old, for the film 'The Judge'.

In 'Apocalypse Now', directed by Francis Ford Coppola, Duvall played Colonel Bill Kilgore, who was obsessed with surfing. In one of the most memorable scenes, he commands a helicopter attack on a Vietnamese village to the sound of Wagner's 'Ride of the Valkyries'.

Although his character appears on screen for only a few minutes, the line "I love the smell of napalm in the morning" and this scene made him a true star.

Originally, Kilgore was supposed to be even more eccentric, but Duvall decided to soften his portrayal.

One of the actor's favorite roles was Augustus McCrae, a Texas ranger-cowboy from the 1989 miniseries 'Lonesome Dove'.

63 years ago, he made his film debut in the adaptation of 'To Kill a Mockingbird'.

In 'The Godfather', Duvall played the role of Tom Hagen, the consigliere to the mafia boss.

"To the world, he was an actor, an Oscar winner, a director, and a storyteller. To me, he was everything," Luciana Duvall noted in her statement. "His passion for art was equal to his love for characters, good food, and conversation."
